RoPax ferry M/S Finnmaid delivered to Finnlines

RoPax ferry M/S Finnmaid has started operating between Helsinki (Finland) and Travemћnde (Germany). The 42 000 gros tonne ferry is able to carry up to 300 trucks and 575 passengers.

M/S Finnmaid is the second of the five RoPax ferries which Finnlines have ordered from Fincantieri shipyards in Italy. The remaining three ferries are estimated to be delivered during the year 2007. All five ferries will be equipped with Taifun kitchen waste management systems.

The systems comprise stainless steel pipelines, collecting funnels or hoppers, food waste tanks and de-watering/vacuum units. The vacuum system is less complex and more flexible than the earlier pulper systems and therefore easier to maintain. One of the vacuum system's main advantages is the improved level of hygiene as the slurry waste system is eliminated. In addition, the garbage is fed directly into the vacuum system and there is no cross contamination between clean and soiled operations.

Taifun is the trademark of MariMatic Oy, expert in vacuum technology since 1983. The company provides waste and by-product handling and conveying solutions for a wide range of businesses globally. Over 600 vacuum conveying systems have been supplied to fish processing plants, abattoirs, poultry processing plants, vegetable processing plants, professional kitchens and other industries.
